Today in Maputo, the government announced some socio-economic measures to ease the impact of the post-election demonstrations. The plan includes the payment of debts, salaries and pensions.
Speaking during the Economic Briefing organized by the Confederation of Economic Associations, Mateus Magala pointed out that the measures will be implemented in January 2025.
He said that the salaries and pensions for December of this year will be paid by the 20th; the government will exempt entrepreneurs from the 94-ton handling fee for food products at Maputo's fishing port, in order to avoid price rises.
The Executive will subsidize inter-provincial transport with a 10% discount between December 15, 2024 and January 15, 2025. Magala guaranteed the payment of 3.1 billion meticais to the basic social protection programs by December 20th of this year.
And to ensure that the private sector is able to pay its workers during the festive season, the government has promised to disburse 1.4 billion meticais.
