Government announces 35 million meticals to support SMEs affected by terrorism

The Government has just announced a package of 35 million meticals to support the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) affected by terrorism in Cabo Delgado province. A total of 500 SMEs will benefit from this support through a line of credit in order to ensure their recovery..

According to the Provincial Director of Economy and Finance of Cabo Delgado, Sidónio Passo, the main objective is the recovery of the economic and financial activity of the province.

"In the area of industry and commerce, we have to highlight the creation of a credit line of 35 million meticais to benefit 500 SMEs," and the identification of "local micro-credit agencies to operationalize the process", Sidónio Passo emphasized.

In parallel to this financial support, the Provincial Director of Economy and Finance of Cabo Delgado is also working on other short-term strategies aimed at reopening businesses after the attacks, including a bet on the agricultural sector, since it is an activity that guarantees subsistence.

The initiatives announced by Cabo Delgado have the support of Save the Children, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Program (WFP), and the Fund for Sustainable Development.
