Governor of the Bank of Mozambique says financial inclusion is still a challenge

Governador do Banco de Moçambique diz que a inclusão financeira ainda é um desafio

The Governor of the Bank of Mozambique (BdM), Rogério Zandamela, said yesterday, Thursday (22), in the city of Beira, Sofala province, that financial inclusion is still a challenge in the country and that overcoming it must take several factors into account.

According to Rogério Zandamela, who was speaking at the opening of UniZambeze's academic year, "there is a need to improve coordination between the various sectors of economic activity and government institutions and to maintain the continuous adaptation of the regulatory environment with a view to improving levels of financial inclusion".

The central bank governor also pointed out that, faced with empirical and academic evidence on the driving role of financial inclusion in socio-economic development, Mozambique has taken bold measures inspired by the three main pillars of financial inclusion, namely "access and use", "strengthening the financial infrastructure", as well as "consumer protection and financial education".
