For the use of the name: Eduardo Mondlane's family worried about Venâncio Mondlane, "a Mondlanito"

Pelo uso do nome: Família de Eduardo Mondlane preocupada com Venâncio Mondlane, “um Mondlanito”

In a statement quoted by the national press, the family of the first president of Frelimo, Eduardo Mondlane, expressed concern at the misuse of the name and achievements of the architect of national unity by Venâncio Mondlane.

During an election campaign speech in Morrumbala, Zambézia province, Venâncio Mondlane allegedly said that after Eduardo Mondlane's death in 1969, "it was not imagined that a Mondlanito would emerge".

Reacting to the statements made by the independent candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, the Mondlane family acknowledged that Eduardo Mondlane's ideals, principles and historical values are a heritage for Mozambique. However, it deplored the fact that his name is being used in bad faith and improperly for purely electoral purposes, with a view to the vote on October 9.

In this sense, the family distances itself from and repudiates the misuse of Eduardo Chivambo Mondlane's name; reaffirms and reiterates its full support for presidential candidate Daniel Chapo and Frelimo, the organization of which Eduardo Chivambo Mondlane was the founder and first President.

In one of his speeches in Zambézia, Venâncio António Bila Mondlane said that if he is elected President of the Republic, he will implement the ideals of Mondlane and Afonso Dhlakama.
