Exports: Vegetables bring in almost 60 million dollars

Exports of vegetables produced in Mozambique to the rest of the world brought in 59.5 million US dollars during the third quarter of last year, according to the Bank of Mozambique.

According to "Notícias", which cites the Banco de Moçambique report, the impact achieved was the result of an increase in the quantities sold, which meant an increase of 41.7% compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the same source, on the Balance of Payments for the third quarter of last year, sugar exports stood at 8.8 million dollars.

This represents a drop of 54% compared to the same period last year, according to the Bank of Mozambique.

The bank indicates that this reduction is related to the drop in the volume exported, which is associated with the decrease in production.

The drop in production, meanwhile, is explained by the low availability of sugar cane following the floods in the first quarter of last year, which affected large companies such as the Maragra sugar factory.

Tobacco, on the other hand, suffered a decrease in the volume exported due to delays in the transportation of the goods, which led to a drop in the results achieved.

As a result, the product achieved revenues of around 27 million dollars, 15.5 million less than the previous year's results.

In the same vein, products such as cotton, bananas and cashew nuts also suffered some reductions, according to the report.

Cotton sales, for example, resulted in 4.2 million dollars, 1.8 million less than in the previous year.

Banana sales earned the country around six million dollars, a decrease of almost four million, in a context in which cashew kernel sales fell by 4.5%, also standing at six million dollars, according to the report.
