EDM expects to make 350,000 new connections this year

The company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) plans to make 350,000 new connections this year, bringing the coverage rate to 53%.

According to EDM, the action will contribute to achieving the target of covering 64% of the population by 2024.

The information was given today during the inauguration of the Mapulanguene voltaic power plant, in Magude district, Maputo province, a ceremony attended by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.

On the occasion, the Head of State revealed that since 2020, 50 administrative posts have been electrified, 40 of which through the national electricity grid and the rest through autonomous systems. As a result, the electricity access rate went from 41% in 2021 to 48% last year.

"This percentage is the result of more than 467,155 new connections made in 2022, of which 356,889 will be through the national electricity grid and 113,266 through photovoltaic systems," said Filipe Nyusi.
