EDM lost 11 million meticais due to vandalized equipment

Last year the public company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) recorded a financial loss estimated at around 11 million meticais due to vandalization of its equipment.

The information was shared on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, by the Director of Electricidade de Moçambique, Hermínio Ássamo, in an exclusive interview with Zumbo FM News.

"Regarding the year 2023, EDM lost around 11 million meticais, from various aspects such as theft of grounding cables, theft of feeder cables, vandalization of poles, spies and other PT accessories," said the Director of Electricidade de Moçambique, Hermínio Ássamo.

To minimize equipment vandalism and theft, EDM has implemented a program called "community engagement", which consists of involving communities in surveillance actions.
