EDM regrets depositing garbage on its premises and says it only "charges a fee to the municipality"

EDM lamenta depósito de lixo nas suas instalações e diz que apenas “cobra taxa para o município”

The company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) appeals to the population not to deposit garbage on its premises, saying that the action "limits the access and movement of employees and customers, as well as the circulation of vehicles of the Piquete for the transportation of materials and technical teams".

In a statement released yesterday, Saturday (04), Electricidade de Moçambique also called for "the work of the company's teams and employees to be facilitated, avoiding acts that disturb the normal supply of electricity".

EDM's appeal comes at a time when residents of several neighborhoods in the city of Maputo have decided to deposit garbage at the premises of EDM, the public entity from which the garbage tax is collected, with the aim of pressuring the capital's authorities to collect the waste.

"The dumping of solid waste near the company's facilities has significantly disrupted the technicians' normal work routine, even making it impossible for employees and vehicles to circulate in order to respond to requests to repair reported faults," the state-owned electricity company emphasized.

In the meantime, EDM clarifies that it "only provides the service of collecting the garbage tax through the energy bills, the amounts of which are then channeled to the City Council, which is the entity responsible for providing the garbage collection service to the residents".
