It is now mandatory to declare the entry and exit of money in national and foreign currency above 10,000 Meticais and 10,000 dollars, announced the Bank of Mozambique through a note.
Entering and leaving the country with physical cash in an amount exceeding 10,000 Meticais or 10,000 dollars or foreign currency equivalent is now subject to a declaration of possession with the financial system regulator.
The alert of the Bank of Mozambique, made public last Thursday, here the newspaper "O País" had access, states that under the terms of Law No. 11/2009 of March 11 - Foreign Exchange Law: "The physical entry and exit of foreign notes and coins in the national territory, in an amount exceeding the equivalent to USD 10,000.00 (ten thousand U.S. dollars), must be declared and the bearer must present the document of legitimate possession.
For national currency, the note warns: "The physical entry and exit of national notes and coins, in amounts exceeding 10 000, 00 MT (ten thousand Meticais), must be declared.
In addition to monetary values, the rules and procedures cover precious metals and minerals: "In the import and export of gold (in bar, ingot or other unworked form), silver, platinum and other precious metals and minerals, the bearer must present, in addition to the import documents, the respective authorization bulletin issued by Banco de Moçambique.
According to the note, for the declaration of the amounts mentioned, the holder of banknotes and coins must fill out, in duplicate, the form in the proper model, at the customs authorities, and must keep the duplicate.
The Bank of Mozambique recommends the use of alternative means of payment, such as bank cards and telegraphic transfers, to avoid the risk of theft. (O País)
