Covid-19: Ministry of Health to start vaccinating teenagers

Mozambique will start vaccinating young people over 15 years old against the new coronavirus, at a time when more than 10 million people have been immunized in the country, the health minister announced.

After another session of the Council of Ministers held this Tuesday, Armindo Tiago, said that planning is underway for the vaccination of teenagers between 15 and 17 years of age.

Armindo Tiago said that the intention is to complete, until May, the vaccination of the entire population over 18 years of age and, after that, the vaccination of teenagers can be started.

"We will announce in the next days how this process will be done," said the governor.

The Health official also mentioned that there is a "descending phase of the fourth wave" of covid-19 in almost the entire country, which means that the disease is being "controlled" in the country.

Recall that the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, announced last Wednesday that the country already has doses of the covid-19 vaccine needed to immunize the entire adult population.

At the moment, there are at least 10.7 million people with a dose administered and about nine million with the full vaccination, according to the latest official data - and the target to be reached (which corresponds to the adult population) is about 16 million.
