On Tuesday (06), the Constitutional Council (CC) decided on the period in which political parties must present the candidacy of their candidates for the Presidency of the Republic.
Decision 1/CC/2024 of February 6 states that candidates' applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on June 10, 2024. The document takes effect from the date of publication, meaning that political parties can now submit their candidacies.

The document, to which the MZNews had access to, explains that candidacies must be submitted by the candidate themselves or their representative no later than 120 days before the date set for the elections, by submitting a candidate declaration.
The presidential, legislative, provincial assembly and provincial governor elections will be held simultaneously throughout the country on October 9, 2024.
Meanwhile, the country's three main political parties with parliamentary seats, Frelimo, Renamo and MDM, are debating the succession of their current presidents who, in the previous elections, were the candidates for the Mozambican presidency. To date, the three parties have not held a congress to elect new presidential candidates. They all promise to do so soon.
