More than a month of negotiations between the communities of the Palma district and the French multinational TotalEnergies have come to an end, without any result having been officially made public.
For more than a week since the talks ended, there has been a climate of uncertainty and frustration in the villages of Macala, Quituda, Quitunco and Kumbi, all located in the middle of the zone of influence of the natural gas exploration megaproject in Area 1 of the Rovuma basin.
These are communities that live in the shadow of one of the largest natural gas reserves on the African continent, and whose promises of development and compensation remain unfulfilled, according to the residents themselves.
Speaking to Zumbo FM NewsA local source, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons, described the atmosphere as "tense and of growing expectation".
"We are waiting for a consensus to be reached in these negotiations. There are still no results and we are still waiting. There are four communities negotiating with TotalEnergies: Macala, Quituda, Quitunco and Kumbi"- said a source who preferred to remain anonymous.
At the heart of the community's demands are demands for fair financial compensation, dignified resettlement processes, participation in the direct benefits of the project and tangible social investments.
TotalEnergies' silence after the close of negotiations is generating growing tension among residents, who are demanding clarity, respect for the agreements reached and urgent answers.
A Zumbo FM News will continue to follow this process and will bring you updates as soon as new information is confirmed. (Text: Zumbo FM)
