CMCM wants to build waste separation center at Hulene dump

CMCM quer construir centro de separação de lixo na lixeira de Hulene

The Maputo City Council (CMCM) plans to build a waste separation center at the Hulene dump to reuse material that could otherwise be discarded.

For the time being, the municipality says work is underway to gain space at the front of the dump so that a platform can be installed.

"We've already planned to build a platform with a shade. We're going to call it the 'Transitory Center' and, even with the opening of the landfill in KaTembe, it will continue to operate, to prevent what is usable from having to cross the bridge or the tollbooth and then return to the city to be reused or recycled. Therefore, there is this intention that, in principle, will be active later this year," said Silva Magaia, Councillor for Territorial Planning, Environment and Urbanization at the CMCM, quoted by the newspaper. The Country.

He gave the information on Saturday, during the World Cleanup Day ceremonies, celebrated in more than 150 countries under the slogan 'A day without plastic'.

On two days, Friday and Saturday, of environmental activism, Mozambique stopped to say 'no to plastic waste in the sea'.

In Mozambique, the central ceremonies took place in Maputo City, where more than 13 groups collected all kinds of solid waste over a 10-kilometer stretch in the fishermen's quarter.

It is estimated that more than two million volunteers took part in the event across the country. Last year, Mozambique came third in the ranking of World Cleanup Day participants.
