Maputo City will have 45 more classrooms this school year 2022

Maputo City expects to complete, this year, 45 more classrooms that will benefit about 4500 students, a response to the lack of space for new schools. Of these classrooms, 10 are under construction in the KaTembe municipal district, 20 in KaMavota, and 15 in the KaMubukwana district..

Vicente Joaquim, Maputo City Secretary of State, said that the current school year is marked by several difficulties, with emphasis on the impact of Covid-19.

"The government and the entire community must contribute so that schools are privileged and reference spaces in the fight against and prevention of Covid-19," he said.

He noted that the government is aware of the challenges, so it has allocated funds for direct support to schools, whose use should be rational. According to some parents and guardians, the 2022 school year should not be marked by class stoppages, as happened in the last two years, when students were subjected to online classes, which, in their view, were not productive.

Carlitos Baptista, a caregiver, pointed out the need for Covid-19's reinforced prevention measures in schools. "Last year was very difficult. We hope that this year will be different. That our children will have positive educational achievement," Baptista said.

The 2022 school year features some innovations in the curriculum. The sixth grade will close the elementary school.
