Cyclone Gombe causes bridge collapse in Zambezia

More than 32,000 people living in the administrative posts of Mulela and Nabur are isolated from the district town of Pebane, in Zambezia province, due to the collapse of a bridge that provides a road link for the three regions.

The district administrator of Pebane, Eduardo Vida, who confirmed this Friday to "Noticias" the information, said that the bridge collapsed as a result of the rains that fell from 7:00 pm yesterday until 7:00 am.

Vida describes this infrastructure as strategic for the economy of the Pebane district, in particular, and for Zambézia province in general, because the two administrative posts are the largest producers of cashew nuts, peanuts, and various types of fish, in addition to wood.

As he explained, the traffic is very conditioned and this can affect the assistance to the population in health, education, water and other programs.

However, due to the threat of the tropical depression Gombe, there are no classes in the city of
Quelimane. Many educational establishments have closed, and the atmosphere in the Zambezian capital remains calm, with its little cloudy.
