China aumenta tarifas sobre os produtos americanos para 125% e a medida entra em vigor este sábado

China has announced additional tariffs on US products of 125%, instead of the 84% previously announced.

The increase, which will come into effect this Saturday, comes in reaction to Trump's executive order, issued on Thursday, which imposed a new hike in US tariffs on Chinese products.

According to Reuters news agency, quoted by Expresso newspaperChina assures that it does not want a trade war, but that it is "not afraid to face it if necessary" and assures that it will not stop retaliating if the US administration insists on continuing to infringe on the country's interests".

The trade war between the world's two largest economies is escalating rapidly, at a time of great volatility in the markets.

This week, in an unexpected turn of events, Donald Trump announced a 90-day suspension of the effect of the "reciprocal tariffs" applied to products from the rest of the world, but maintained and even worsened the duties imposed on China, which now stand at 145%.

The Chinese mission to the World Trade Organization filed a new complaint this Friday against the latest US measures for "serious violation" of international trade rules and "coercive unilateralism".

The official Chinese press has pointed out in recent days that the Asian country has diversified the destinations of its exports in the last five years, so it is not as vulnerable to a trade war with the United States as it was during Trump's first presidency (2017-2021).
