The Ports and Railways Company of Mozambique (CFM) is working to ensure the rehabilitation of the port infrastructure of Mocímboa da Praia, in the province of Cabo Delgado, writes the newspaper Notícia.
The source said that the amounts to be spent on the works were not disclosed, but it is known that the rail-port company points to the restoration of conditions for the resumption of activities at the Port of Mocímboa da Praia as one of the investments that the executive board of the northern region should accomplish this year.
In fact, the Port of Mocímboa da Praia is about 70 kilometers from the construction area of the natural gas exploration project led by the French group Total. In addition to the Port of Mocímboa da Praia, CFM's executive board for the northern region is expected to expand the Port of Pemba this year, with a view to maximizing turnover with the implementation of the oil and gas projects.
Earlier this week, the authorities in Cabo Delgado announced that the reconstruction of the town of Mocímboa da Praia will include urban redevelopment to improve the lives of the population and strengthen the security of the neighborhoods. After an occupation that lasted a little over a year by terrorists, Mocímboa da Praia was looted and almost all public and private infrastructure destroyed.
