CFM announces acquisition of new locomotives to boost passenger transportation

In the next few days, fifteen new locomotives will reinforce passenger rail transport, especially in the Greater Maputo Region, which includes the cities of Maputo, Matola and the towns of Boane and Marracuene..

Three of the machines have been imported from China and are expected to arrive at the end of this month, a project that is being accelerated in response to the program for the first 100 days of the new cycle of government.

The remaining 12 locomotives were ordered in India, six of which will be in Mozambique this year.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ports and Railways Company of Mozambique (CFM), Agostinho Langa, who was speaking at the CFM Directors' meeting, which ends today in the tourist area of Ponta do Ouro, Maputo province, the machines will reinforce the transportation of the more than 22,000 passengers who use the trains every day.

"We are determined, as part of our social responsibility, to facilitate the movement of people and goods, and at the moment there are several structuring projects underway that are helping to promote the well-being of Mozambicans, who need to move around and circulate goods on a daily basis," said Agostinho Langa, quoted by the Mozambican press. On the occasion, Agostinho Langa reiterated that the company was going to complete the project for the second phase of the doubling of the Ressano Garcia line between Movene and Ressano, linking Mozambique and South Africa, as well as signposting the entire railroad.

"The results we've achieved and the ones we're about to complete are an oxygen balloon that fuels our determination to remain resilient in meeting our targets, in line with the government's strategic guidelines," said the CFM manager.
