The Labor Consultative Commission (CCT), a body that brings together the government, employers, and workers, will meet in an extraordinary session in the coming days to discuss measures that can alleviate the rising cost of living.

The information was shared a few days ago in Maputo by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Margarida Talapa. According to the minister, it is urgent that the social partners assess the situation in order to take more appropriate measures.

The minister said that the government is aware of the effects of rising prices on the corrosion of the purchasing power of Mozambican families.

That is why it is, in coordination with the entities that represent workers and employers, identifying concrete measures that will contribute to relieving the cost of living.

"As for the cost of living, our country is going through significantly complex times, as a result of the increasing increase in the price of cereals and energy products on a global scale, a situation that tends to intensify due to the war between Russia and Ukraine," she said.

He then announced that the Labor Advisory Commission will meet in the coming days to consult on matters of an economic and social nature.

"As a sector, we would like to recall that in the country we have an appropriate forum for dialogue and social concertation in which, workers, employers, and the Government share, analyze, and reach consensus on all matters of an economic and social nature - we are talking about the Labor Consultative Commission, which, at the local level, is represented by the Social Consultation and Concertation forums," he explained.

Its composition is tripartite, including the Government, the Confederation of Business Associations of Mozambique (CTA), the Organization of Mozambican Workers-Central Union (OTM-CS) and the National Confederation of Independent and Free Trade Unions of Mozambique (CONSILMO), with the main mission of promoting dialogue and social consultation within the scope of economic, social and, particularly, labor policies.
