The government should adopt effective mechanisms for refunding Value Added Tax (VAT) to entrepreneurs, according to the president of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce (CCM), Àlvaro Massingue.
Speaking at a briefing on the tax changes to the customs tariff, VAT code and ICE, Masingue said that the business class expects more from the government. Reducing VAT by one percent, to 16%, is not enough.
"The implementation of this reform must be accompanied by additional measures. They must allow for the early repayment of the residual value of this fiscal responsibility," he said, quoted by Notícias.
But Massingue also considers the tax burdens to be arbitrary, as they make economic activities in the country more expensive, reflecting something like double taxation.
On the other hand, CCM hopes that the other reforms introduced by the Economic Acceleration Program will ease the tax burden.
