Under the memorandum of understanding signed between the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Pemba (IICP) and TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, in its capacity as operator of the Mozambique LNG project, the technical and vocational training of the first 90 young people out of a total of 390 to be trained over an estimated period of 12 months began today.
The 90 trainees, mostly from Palma and Mocímboa da Praia, will spend three months on the hotel and tourism course, which includes the specialties of reception and floors (rooms), restaurant and bar, as well as gastronomy and culinary arts. Gender parity was ensured in this group.
The oil and gas processing, industrial electricity and general mechanics courses are due to start in March, covering the remaining 300 young people. These courses are funded by the Mozambique LNG project, as part of its Capacitamoz initiative,
Esperança Pinto, representing the Director of the Cabo Delgado Provincial Social Affairs Service, said that "In this first cycle of training, we plan to train 90 young people from Cabo Delgado in Hospitality and Tourism courses, as a way of opening the way for our trainees to potentially join companies, whether TotalEnergies or others. In short, these synergies bring us ever closer to an important employer, the private sector. With the implementation of this memorandum, it is hoped that there will be a greater increase in the employability rate by promoting self-employment, since the trainees who leave here will be equipped with tools that will enable them to continue with the skills they acquired during their training, and they will be able to employ even more young people in the future."
For his part, Leonardo Nhavoto, Local Content manager at TotalEnergies Mozambique, said: "Although we are still in force majeure and therefore our operations are suspended, we remain committed to the development of the country and Cabo Delgado in particular. Today, with the start of training for 90 young people out of the 390 who will be trained at the IICP, we are taking another important step towards materializing our commitment. It is another important stage in the implementation of our Local Content Strategy, which is in line with the Single Local Content Program established by the government. In fact, the 390 young people who will be trained here at the ICCP will join the 2,500 young people who will be trained over a 5-year period in Cabo Delgado, in a partnership already underway between TotalEnergies and IFPELAC, as part of our CapacitaMoz initiative."
CapacitaMoz is an initiative led by the Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies, which acts as a platform for training Mozambicans. In the context of this project, capacity building is defined as the process by which individuals and organizations obtain, improve and retain the skills, knowledge, competence, experience, tools, equipment and/or other resources needed to carry out their work competently.
