BP rakes in USD 500M from gas crisis

British Petroleum (BP) raised at least $500 million during the third quarter of this year, as most of the world's energy companies were hurt by the gas crisis.

As the world economy rebounded from the damage that came with the Covid-19 pandemic, energy consumption was rampant, and supplies are still not keeping up with demand. Consequently, in the middle of the last quarter, natural gas and energy prices rose to an all-time high in Europe and parts of Asia.

This demand has led to a significant reduction in supply reserves that are currently at very low levels.

The gains came as customers on those two continents rushed to buy Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the United States and other parts of the world to alleviate shortages.

BP's strong gas trading results are likely to provide an early indication of how some of the other international energy companies will benefit from the global gas crisis.
