The National Electoral Commission (CNE) met today in Maputo with the political parties and party coalitions to share voter registration data and announce the start date for submitting nominations for the municipal elections on October 11.

The CNE revealed that during the voter registration process, more than 8,700,000 potential voters were registered.

"The brigades managed to register a total of 8,723,805 voters. In the municipal constituencies, it was possible to register 4,817,702 potential voters," said Paulo Cuinica, spokesman for the CNE, quoted by Radio Mozambique.

On the other hand. Cuinica guaranteed that all the financial issues for holding the elections are being taken care of by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

"We are constantly at the Ministry of Economy and Finance trying to sort out the next steps. So far, the activities have been carried out normally and we hope that nothing, in financial terms, will jeopardize the electoral process," he said.

Regarding the submission of candidacies by political parties and party coalitions registered for the country's sixth local elections, the CNE said that the process will begin next Thursday. At the moment, 23 political groups have registered with the CNE, including 18 political parties, two coalitions and three groups of voting citizens.

At the meeting, the CNE also presented the procedures for submitting applications.

"This is an extremely important and critical moment because, in reality, we are preparing for the elections to be held. ", said the President of the CNE, Monsignor Carlos Matsinhe.
