The Public Ministry submitted an application to the Judicial Court of Maputo City requesting the seizure of assets and property of some of the defendants in the case of Hidden Debts. One of the exuberant assets already identified belongs to António Carlos do Rosário, former Director of Economic Intelligence of the State Security and Information Service (SISE). Learn More
This Tuesday, MZNews learned that the Leão couple, Gregório Leão (Former Director-General of the State Information and Security Service - SISE) and Ângela Leão, his wife, today in the dock in the Hidden Debt trial, will have five properties and plots of land seized.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the couple holds assets in their personal name or in the name of the company Anlaba Investments, SA, where Gregório Leão holds shares. Some assets, such as plots of land, are registered in the name of Ambrósio Orrubale, Gregório Leão's brother.
Nevertheless, two properties in the Karibu Building, Avenida da Marginal, in Maputo city, registered in the name of Anlaba Investments SA; a property located in Rua José Craveirinha (between the Women's Detachment Square and the traffic circle on Av, Marginal before the Radisson Blu hotel), also in Maputo city, will be seized; a villa in rua das Maçanicas, in Maputo City (Bairro Costa do Sol), registered in the name of Ângela Leão; and a villa in the Triunfo neighborhood, in Maputo City.
The Public Ministry also requested the seizure of a plot in the condominium Natureza Viva, in the neighborhood Belo Horizonte, in the municipality of Boane, Maputo province, registered in the name of Anlaba Investments and Angi Anlaue.
It should be noted that, in its reasoning, the prosecution alleges that the seizure of movable and immovable property of the defendants of the "hidden debts" aims to prevent that, in the course of time until the final and unappealable decision of the case, "the defendants may dissipate, conceal and disguise the unseized assets of which they are the owners and, consequently, the loss of the assets guaranteeing payment of the requested compensation", set at 2.9 billion dollars.
The prosecution cites, as an example, the fact that the defendants adopted measures of dissipation, concealment and concealment of assets acquired, immediately after receiving the money from the Privinvest Group. It adds that António Carlos Do Rosário and Bruno Langa tried to dissipate some assets, even after their seizure.
