Angola's oil production in July surpassed Nigeria for the third consecutive month, with the Lusophone country producing 1.180 million barrels per day, compared to 1.084 in sub-Saharan Africa's largest economy.
According to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) monthly report cited by Lusa, Angola has been slightly increasing production since the beginning of the year, rising from 1.123 million barrels per day, in the last quarter of 2021, to 1.161 million in the first quarter of this year and 1.173 in the second quarter of 2022.
By comparison, according to data submitted to OPEC by the countries, Nigeria produced 1,260 in the last three months of 2021, improving slightly to 1,299 in the first three months of the year, but dropping to 1,133 in the second quarter of the year.
In May and June of this year, Angola produced 1.162 million and 1.175 million barrels per day, compared to 1.024 million and 1.158 million barrels produced by Nigeria.
Nigeria, the largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa and the most populous country, had the second largest decline recorded among OPEC members in July, even though Angola also reduced its production, according to secondary sources that are also made available in the OPEC report.
Secondary sources presented in OPEC's August report show Angola producing 1.164 million barrels per day in May, 1.184 million in June and 1.165 in July, while Nigeria produced 1.153 in May, 1.176 in June and 1.183 in July.
OPEC is an organization that represents the interests of 13 oil exporting countries: Algeria, Angola, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.
