The National Roads Administration (ANE) has revealed that it is facing difficulties in repairing damaged roads in Maputo province due to a lack of funding.
According to the head of ANE's planning sector, Rone Tembe, this problem affects both roads compromised by recent rains and floods and those worn out by prolonged use.
Cited by Radio MozambiqueRone Tembe acknowledged, during a monitoring visit to the emergency works on the N2, which connects Mozambique to the Kingdom of Eswatini through the district of Namaacha, the budgetary limitations that are compromising the entity's ability to intervene.
"We don't have the capacity due to a lack of funds. There is no money available to plan and carry out the necessary interventions," said the source, adding that ANE is currently working on around 900 kilometers of the province's road network, which stretches over 1,633 kilometers.
He said that with the funds available, a further 350 kilometers are being worked on by concessionaires such as REVIMO and TRAC, making a total of 1,250 kilometers. However, for the rest of the network, ANE does not have the capacity to intervene.
