A total of 13 coastal districts in the provinces of Sofala, Zambézia and Nampula will receive projects aimed at coastal resilience, to improve economic opportunities for communities.
To this end, an agreement between ProAzul, the Biodiversity Conservation Foundation (BIOFUND) and the US government's external support agency Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) will be signed on 23 May in Maputo to operationalize the terms of understanding.
According to MCC Resident Director Kenneth Miller, "the program will train young people and women in community management of coastal and marine ecosystems, diversify livelihoods and improve fisheries management, among other activities".
Speaking at a round table, the official discussed the US government's partnership with Mozambique on climate change, pointing out that "this program, called "Resilient Coastal Communities", is due to end in 2027 and will cost 25 million dollars to implement.
