Africa50 to invest one billion dollars in infrastructure

Africa50 vai investir mil milhões de dólares em infra-estruturas

Africa50, an infrastructure investment platform on the African continent, will invest just over one billion US dollars to finance projects in the transportation, energy and communication sectors.

The information was provided by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Africa 50, Alain Ebobisse, who was speaking yesterday in Maputo, after an audience granted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Lucas.

The funding, according to the head of Africa50, aims to help Mozambique's deficit budget to carry out projects of this nature.

The fund was conceived taking into account the limitations of African countries in terms of public resources and their need for extra funding to carry out different development projects with an impact on the lives of the population, said Ebobisse quoted by "Notícias".

The funds will be managed through a public-private partnership and Mozambique is one of the attractive countries eligible to benefit from the funding.

"We are waiting for projects to be submitted. Considering President Chapo's appeal, the projects must come as soon as possible in order to be implemented and generate the well-being of Mozambicans.

The Africa 50 platform was established by African governments and the African Development Bank to help fill Africa's infrastructure financing gap.

With around seven years of operations, the platform has already invested in 27 projects in 29 countries, with a total value of more than one billion dollars.
