Two Mozambican men were arrested in the South African province of Mpumalanga, which borders Mozambique, with 53 kilograms of drugs worth an estimated 2.9 million euros, the South African police announced yesterday..
"Fifty-eight plastic bags containing 53 kg of 'crystal meth' with a commercial value of around 53 million rand [2.9 million euros] were confiscated," the South African police said in a statement, to which Lusa had access.
"The operation led to the arrest of two Mozambican citizens, Reginald Francisco de Maura Tomás, 32, and Reginaldo João Tomás, 30, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at around 10:00 a.m., in the Nkomazi Toll Plaza," he revealed.
The Nkomazi tollbooth on National Road 4 (N4) in Kaapmuiden, South Africa, is about 65 kilometers from Komatipoort, on the border with Mozambique.
According to the South African police, the drugs were hidden in "different compartments in the light vehicle registered in South Africa with Gauteng plates".
