Mozambique has 23 million dollars at its disposal to develop economic and social projects in the provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa, in the north of the country, the Northern Integrated Development Agency (ADIN) said on Thursday (25).
"We have lots of projects funded by various organizations, including the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP. All these projects are being coordinated by ADIN (...), there are 23 million dollars that are currently being projected just for the northern zone", revealed the president of ADIN, Jacinto Loureiro, during the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the agency's office in Nampula.
Cited by Radio MozambiqueThe official said that the projects to be developed in northern Mozambique are aimed at "solving the problems of the population", especially the victims of armed attacks, which have been carried out in Cabo Delgado by insurgent groups since 2017.
ADIN was officially launched on August 31, 2020, by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, with the aim of reducing the serious regional asymmetries by promoting the development of the provinces of Niassa, Cabo Delgado and Nampula.
The most recent figures show that the three provinces with the highest poverty rates are Niassa with 67%, Nampula with 65% and Cabo Delgado with 53%, compared to the national average of 43%.
