The Mozambique Bar Association (OAM) wants justice to be impartial in the case of the road accident involving the son of the President of the Republic, Florindo Nyusi, which injured two children.
In a statement released to MZNews, the OAM said it had learned of a car accident on July 12 in which the driver of the high-cylinder vehicle lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another car. He then ran over two children on their way to school and destroyed three people's shops.
In a press release, the OAM said that it was saddened by the media reports that the driver of the vehicle, Florindo Nyusi, did not provide the necessary assistance, as required by law, and that at the moment the support provided to the victims' families is questionable.
"We maintain full confidence in the law and in the institutions of the administration of justice, however, we believe that this is indeed a case that will test the seriousness and isonomy of our system of the administration of justice," the Bar Association said in a statement.
The OAM considers it important that the police have done their job and identified the scene of the accident and the immediate search for signs of wrongdoing, namely images and measurement of any braking marks on the sidewalk, and the testing of the driver for possible evidence of drink-driving or other illegal drugs.
The OAM also says that in order to ascertain the truth, it is necessary for the police to have taken statements and identified possible eyewitnesses, in addition to the known retention of the vehicle's documents, since, according to the OAM, information is circulating that the vehicle was circulating without the driver's registration plate and driving license.
