Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia met in Lilongwe, the Malawian capital, to assess the progress of joint planning activities and share experiences for the development of the Nacala Corridor..
This high-level meeting, which ends next Friday (14), aims to improve tripartite coordination mechanisms, with a view to reducing the costs and time of commercial transactions, as well as improving access to transport infrastructures.
On the occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Logistics of Mozambique, Ambrósio Sitoe, who led the Mozambican delegation, said at the opening of the meeting that the development of the Nacala Corridor "will improve trade facilitation as the SADC countries move towards deeper regional integration".

For his part, Malawi's Secretary for Transport and Public Works, David Mzandu, highlighted that the meeting will, among other things, review the project's progress, provide an opportunity for delegates to consolidate collective efforts and forge a shared vision for the future.
"By solving transportation costs, eliminating trade barriers and promoting competitiveness, new markets and economic opportunities will be unlocked for Member States, both within the region and beyond, through the Nacala Corridor," added David Mzandu.
The World Bank-funded project began in 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2027. It will, among other things, reduce transportation costs and improve regional trade efficiency between the three nations.
