The South African government has called for "urgent dialogue" in neighboring Mozambique to resolve the crisis that erupted after the final results of the October 9 elections were declared.
Following the announcement of the election results on Monday, South Africa "noted with concern the ongoing violence and subsequent disruptive protests in response to the announcement," the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation said in a statement released on Tuesday, according to Radio Mozambique.
The South African government "calls on all parties to engage in an urgent dialogue that will heal the country and put it on a new political and development path," the South African diplomatic service said in the same statement.
South Africa "is ready to help Mozambique in any way that facilitates this dialog," he said.
The South African authorities say they will continue to work with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and other multilateral agencies to "support a lasting solution to the current impasse".
They also call on "all parties to show restraint and calm".
