The Mozambican government has announced the creation of 94 multi-sector brigades to step up inspections of the trade in expired and/or damaged products, including price speculation and the use of pyrotechnics during the festive season in the country.
According to a NewsIn a press release, which quotes the spokesman for the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE), Tomás Timba, actions are underway to raise awareness among economic agents to avoid infringing the Law on the Defense of Consumer Rights and to adopt good commercial practices.
"During this festive season, we ask store owners to display prices, keep products well stocked on the shelves, avoid price speculation and serve the consumer with cordiality," explained Tomás Timba at a press conference on Tuesday.
The source also said that 550 markets had been inspected nationwide this year, resulting in 54 notifications and 37 notices being issued for various transgressions.
"In terms of the markets, products worth 25,000 meticais were incinerated, especially out-of-date and damaged products, an action carried out in coordination with other entities," he said.
He added that at the moment, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, butter beans and horse mackerel fish are fluctuating in price, with a tendency to rise, due to dependence on imports.
