The presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, denounced this Saturday on his official Facebook account that he had been the victim of an assassination attempt.

Without giving too many details about what happened, Mondlane wrote: "Another failed attempt to assassinate me. In the event of me being shot down.... the whole people should move with maximum force into the TURBO V8 phase".

The same information was also written on the official website of PODEMOS, the party supporting Venâncio Mondlane's candidacy. "Dear Mozambicans, we have often noticed that the life of our President, Venâncio Mondlane, is in great danger, however, there are many attempts on his life," the message reads.

Venâncio Mondlane, who is in an uncertain location, is the leader of the demonstrations that have been taking place throughout most of the country since October 21.

The demonstrations are taking place in protest at the election results, which gave victory to Frelimo and its candidate Daniel Chapo, according to CNE data.
