Police officer sexually assaulted by protesters in Murrupula

Agente da polícia violada sexualmente por manifestantes em Murrupula

The reports of the results of the demonstration that took place last Thursday night (30) in the district of Murrupula, in the province of Nampula, that have reached us are heaven-sent.

After the looting and destruction of public and private property that we reported on, there are now reports that the demonstrators chased officers from the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) shortly after 6pm on the same day.

A source in Murrupula said that "three police officers [two men and a woman] were here on the main road, when the protesters approached they ran away, but the lady couldn't run, she went into a house. When the demonstrators arrived at that house, they destroyed the house and tore the police officer's clothes and inserted fingers into her genitals."

At the Murrupula health center, a source confirmed that a police officer had been treated there for complaints in this regard, but is out of danger.

Murrupula Community Radio has not escaped the barbarity either. Its employees are receiving death threats, allegedly because they have been passing on news from the local administrator.

As we understand it, the radio management had to remove the transmitter and console to ensure the integrity of the equipment.

Local businesses have suffered greatly, with 500,000 meticais being stolen and all their merchandise stolen. (Text: Ikweli newspaper)
