The executive director of the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), Adriano Nuvunga, says that the death of Elvino Dias, lawyer for presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane and main legal advisor to CAD/PODEMOS and Paulo Guambe, PODEMOS candidate in the General Elections, is aimed at creating instability in the country for the benefit of a few people..
"This death is aimed at creating chaos in the country, because there are people who benefit from this chaos," said Adriano Nuvunga, during the laying of flowers at the site where Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe were shot.
For Nuvunga, this killing is also aimed at silencing the fight for electoral justice. "They want to intimidate the people so that they don't speak out against the irregularities. They want to create chaos so that they can start shooting at Mozambican society."
According to the director of the Mozambican non-governmental organization, "this crime is an attack on democracy, but with very clear traces, given the death threat messages that the lawyer had been receiving".
"The struggle that Elvino Dias defended is no longer just for PODEMOS, nor for Venâncio Mondlane, but for the Mozambican people. I hope that we continue with Elvino Dias' struggle to dignify the blood he shed. Let's stand up and make this the struggle of everyone from Rovuma to Maputo," he concluded.
