The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) is calling for a revision of the law that regulates the operation of the environmental packaging tax system.
The president of the CTA, Agostinho Vuma, was quoted by Rádio Moçambique as saying that the packaging regulation should not be an instrument for the proliferation of taxes and fees.
In Maputo, businesspeople are debating a proposal that should be presented to the government, through the Ministry of Land and Environment, the body that approved the law in 2017.
João Frades, vice-president of the CTA's Land and Environment department, believes that the fees should go to the producer and importer of the packaging.
