The Budget Execution report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance reveals that the circulation of banknotes and coins in Portugal fell by 214 million meticais, or 0.3%, during the first six months of the year.
Conversely, there was an increase in total deposits of 29.418 million meticais, representing 8.8% compared to last year.
The document states that in May of this year, the broader aggregate of currency (M3) increased in accumulated terms to 29.205 million meticais, around 4.4%.
The foreign currency component increased by 540.5 million meticais, around 8.5 million US dollars, the opposite scenario being observed in the meticais-denominated component, which fell by 486.5 million meticais. (Source: Notícias. Image: DR)
