Sofala: Fake SISE agent arrested in Beira city

Sofala: Detido falso agente do SISE na cidade da Beira

A person allegedly posing as an agent of the State Information and Security Service (SISE) was arrested in the city of Beira, Sofala province, when he tried to deliver an alleged criminal to a police station, which he neutralized.

According to the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), quoted by the newspaper "The Country", the alleged fake agent charged a thousand meticais for each arrest and seizure of goods, using a fake ID card.

The accused began his activities in January of this year. Using a false card that identified him as a forensic technician, he arrested alleged criminals and handed them over to police stations in the city of Beira.

The man now in custody claims that he arrested six criminals and handed them over to police stations, recovering some goods in exchange for money from the families he was helping. One of the victims of the alleged fake SISE agent went to the police station to get clarification, as he knew the alleged fraudster as "someone in intelligence".

"I'm amazed. The police are working and they say they have an intelligence person. I know he's a fraudster, so I need the commander to explain to me what kind of intelligence that is. When my daughter was arrested, they took her two phones, which should have been in the possession of the police station, but they were in the possession of him, the intelligence person. When I arrived, they said that the phones were being brought back, but how, if they were supposed to be here (at the police station)".

However, the PRM was already aware of the alleged fake SISE agent's actions and was looking for him. The victim's accusations contributed to the criminal's arrest. After being arrested, the accused took responsibility for the crimes and explained how he acted.

"The person receives my card and when they suffer a robbery or are mugged, they contact me and I recover the things, bring the crook to the police station and the person (helped) pays".
He also said that he had already presented two alleged criminals at the police station where he is being held, and was arrested when he was about to present the third.

"They arrested me. The person was guilty, but I was detained," he lamented, saying that he didn't regret his actions, on the contrary, he declared that he felt "honored to have helped people".
