Mozambique grew by 5.1% last year

Moçambique cresceu 5,1% no ano passado

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said yesterday that Mozambique expected economic growth of 5.1% in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023, with "the expectation of achieving a positive variation of 5.5%" this year.

According to Nyusi, the trend is driven by growth in the extractive sector, estimated at 15.5%, after having risen by 14.6% in the first quarter of this year in year-on-year terms.

In cumulative terms, Nyusi said that in the period from 2020 to 2024, the value will be more than 12.3 billion dollars, in products such as coal, natural gas, heavy nets, rubies, sapphires and emeralds."

The Head of State, who was speaking yesterday during the opening of the 10th edition of the Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition, said that the accumulated value of electricity exports in the same period amounted to 2.2 billion dollars.
