Renamo gives in and schedules congress for May 15 and 16

Renamo cede e marca congresso para 15 e 16 de Maio

Venâncio Mondlane wins his second court battle and makes Ossufo Momade give in. The Renamo Congress is scheduled for May 15 and 16 and will elect the party's next President

"We have reached an agreement and the Congress is definitively scheduled for May 15 and 16," said Renamo MP Venâncio Mondlane, minutes after the decision.

In addition to the date of the Congress, the agreement that has just been reached, according to Mondlane, provides for freedom of movement for party members throughout the country.

"And in relation to the campaign for the potential candidates for the presidency of Renamo, it has been established that we must work in a balanced way, that is, in equal circumstances," said Mondlane, who also reiterated his position of running for the presidency of Renamo.

Renamo, which claimed that the National Congress was not scheduled due to a lack of funds, gave in after failing to prove to the court that it really didn't have the money for that important meeting.

This was the culmination of an injunction submitted by Venâncio Mondlane demanding that the leadership of that political force set the dates for the elective congress.

Venâncio Mondlane also reiterated that he intends to run for the presidency of Renamo, because the party needs "reform and modernization, in order to become a winner", because it has never won elections since 1994, when the first universal suffrage was held in Mozambique.
