The public company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) reports an estimated loss of 10 million meticais due to the damage caused by the severe tropical storm "Filipo" when it passed through the province of Inhambane, in the south of the country.
According to EDM, the storm knocked down 73 medium- and low-voltage network posts, covering 3.5 kilometers, leaving around 113,000 customers without power.
Cited by AIMThe director of the state-owned electricity company for the Customer Service Area in Inhambane, Fenias Dimande, said that investment was being made to repair the damage caused by Storm Filipo and to electrify the affected districts.
"Some work is continuing in Morrumbene, [...] of course there is still some work on the low-voltage network, but the work is still going on in the Ninganinga and Mata areas, where around 1,500 customers still don't have power," said Dimande, calling on customers to take precautionary measures in view of the existence of poles and cables still on the ground.
Tropical Storm Filipo entered national territory last Tuesday (12) from the district of Inhassoro, in the province of Inhambane.
