On Wednesday, Mozambique Airlines (LAM) introduced the first plane dedicated solely to transporting various types of cargo in the country, with a total capacity of 17 tons and autonomy to fly 3,500 km without landing.
The measure aims to respond to the needs of the national business community, which will be able to send cargo twice a week from Maputo to the other provincial capitals. Exceptionally, a weekly flight is planned to the city of Tete.
The good news was announced by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Amilton Alissone, for whom this investment represents a response to the market, which has demanded that conditions be made possible for more efficient transportation of goods.
The ceremony was attended by the Managing Director of Fly Modern Ark and acting Chairman of LAM's Board of Directors, Theunis Crous, who noted that this was the Mozambican company's first cargo ship.
"LAM has a long history in cargo transportation, but it has never dedicated itself to air cargo services," he said.
