The Mozambican government, through the Minister of Transport and Communications, this Thursday expressed its commitment to removing all barriers to the mobility of people and goods and to trade in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Speaking during a meeting with Zimbabwe's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Félix Mhona, as part of his visit to Harare, Zimbabwe, Magala pointed out that "as the government of Mozambique, we reiterate our total willingness to jointly implement various initiatives that will allow for the removal of all barriers to mobility and trade."
Quoted by DW, the Mozambican leader also stressed the importance of Mozambique in eliminating obstacles to the movement of people and goods in southern Africa, given that the country has rail and port infrastructures that give access to the sea and allow international trade from neighboring landlocked states.
In this sense, he continued, SADC must work towards implementing reforms aimed at improving accessibility and mobility for people and goods.
In addition, Mateus Magala highlighted Mozambique's commitment to improving the efficiency of the Beira, Maputo and Nacala corridors, which allow neighboring countries to carry out their international trade, and also pointed to the start this month of the uninterrupted operation of the Machipanda border post, which links Mozambique and Zimbabwe, as an important step forward in boosting economic and trade ties between the two countries.
