IMF suggests fiscal prudence mechanisms to reduce high public debt

FMI sugere mecanismos de prudência fiscal para reduzir alto endividamento público

Mozambique must improve fiscal prudence mechanisms to reduce high public debt, said the resident representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Alexis Meyer.

Meyer said, quoted by Rádio Moçambique, that it was necessary to maintain the reforms introduced by the government in order to stabilize the public debt.

The source was speaking this Thursday at the end of a meeting with the President of the Parliament's Planning and Budget Committee, as part of the Extended Credit program.

Mayer says that the reform of the Single Wage Scale created more spending than planned in last year's budget and during this year, "so there is this need to take very cautious steps so that we arrive in the near future and manage to move forward with growth without jeopardizing stability," he said.
