Today, the Mozambican nation celebrates Victory Day over the Portuguese colonial regime, thanks to the signing of the Lusaka Accords on September 7, 1974, after talks lasting around three months.
It was these agreements that paved the way for the proclamation of national independence on June 25, 1975.
This year, the ceremonies marking the 49th anniversary of the signing of the Lusaka Accords took place in the city of Maxixe, Inhambane province, where veterans and fighters of the National Liberation Struggle were awarded honorary titles, some posthumously.
On the occasion, the President of the Republic, Filipe, highlighted the bravery of the national combatants, especially those from Inhambane who, during the years of armed struggle, were "excellent soldiers of positive sabotage".
In the meantime, Nyusi said that there will be no salary capable of compensating the selflessness of national fighters in the fight to defend Mozambican sovereignty and homeland. At that moment, the PR noted that there are currently combatants from the past who are in the forests of Cabo Delgado fighting terrorism, "to return freedom to the homeland snatched from the Portuguese".
"The veterans are showing by their actions that in this process, as well as on a daily basis, they are willing to unselfishly pass on the noblest values of peace and love of country to the new generations. The combatants are telling us that we must be willing to make all kinds of sacrifices when it comes to our territory and our people. Therefore, dear compatriots, especially the younger ones, this is one of the messages that should be taken away from this ceremony, that of agreeing to undergo sacrifices to defend and provide for the well-being of our people. That's why we say that there is no salary sufficient or capable of paying for the sacrifice of the veterans of the National Liberation Struggle," he said.
The ceremonies are being held under the slogan Combatants Firm in the Consolidation of National Unity, Peace, Development and the Fight against Terrorism.
