Operations at the Maragra sugar mill, in Maputo's Manhiça district, have been compromised as a result of flooding earlier this year, the damage to which is still being assessed.
Source quoted by News revealed that at least 100 million dollars are needed to recover the machinery and guarantee the next production cycle.
The floods damaged the entire irrigation system, the electrical system and drainage, as well as cane processing equipment. This also led to the loss of 470,000 tons of sugar.
The company has the capacity to assess 97 kilometers of the protection dyke, which has broken at four different points.
The sugar company will also be able to remove the submerged machines, and will therefore be launching a public tender in the next few days to hire a company to do so.
