The government has revised upwards the country's economic growth projections for this year and for 2024, announced the spokesman for the Council of Ministers.
The government expects growth of around seven percent this year, i.e. two percentage points above the 5% included in the Economic and Social Plan and State Budget for 2023. For 2024, the government forecasts growth of 5.5%.Last year the national economy grew by 4.1%."Our optimism has to do with the revival of the economy, new revenue-raising scenarios and the functioning of our fiscal scenario as a whole," said Filimão Suaze, at the end of Tuesday's meeting of the Council of Ministers in Maputo."It's an optimism that I think is justified if we look at the way the world is presenting itself in this post-covid moment: there is a tendency for the main sectors to start reviving. Mozambique has been no exception," he concluded. For the Executive, the updated projections are largely driven by the economic reforms introduced recently to revive the national economy.
