One million Mozambicans to have access to electricity by 2022

By 2022, more than a million Mozambicans had access to electricity for the first time and the country's 154 districts, their headquarters and 281 administrative posts were electrified.

The information was given this Thursday by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, during the inauguration of the national electricity grid at the Chupanga administrative post, in the Marromeu district of Sofala.

"We are encouraged by the fact that in 2022 alone more than 460,000 new connections were made, reaching the target of 49 % in the rate of domestic access to electricity," said the Head of State quoted by RM.

According to President Nyusi, the big challenge for now is to extend access to electricity to the population to 64 % by 2024.

The head of state said that the expansion of national grid energy in the country aims to boost growth in production and productivity.
